Another popular question asked by many of our clients is, how exactly does our click-fraud prevention technology work?

There are several ways our system protects your ad network from click-fraud. First, at the central level, we embed a pixel tracking code for every single publisher code. This code features both click-fraud prevention, as well as publisher site quality control. The system tracks each visit, and monitors how long they stay at the destination page. A click considered good quality consists of many unique IP addresses and stays on the page for over 2 seconds. A click is considered bad quality if one IP address clicks many different ads and stays for less than 1 second. Bad quality clicks are automatically blacklisted; if one IP address has clicked 8 or more times within a very short time span, such as a few seconds or less, the system will block this particular IP address for 30 days.
Another useful tool in the administrator panel of MyAdMarket’s Open Media Exchange is the ability to set a site gateway. Commonly known as CAPTCHA, or the “double-click method,” the site gateway tool requires users to verify that they are human and not a computer-generated click by challenging users to type in letters or digits from an image before presenting the user with the destination URL. To use the site gateway tool to help you detect click fraud on suspicious publisher sites, go into your site settings in the administrator panel, and input the site gateway percentage so that a verification code is required for every X amount of clicks. For example, 50% will require the user to input a code one of every two clicks.
Example of site gateway:

Used in conjunction with the site gateway tool is the real-time site gateway report, which will provide you with very valuable information to help you determine unusual activity, for example, the IP addresses of each visit, the display URL, the clicked URL, good clicks vs. bad clicks, and so forth. This is done through the Site Gateway Report under Publisher Traffic Reports in the admin menu.
As well, we have a dedicated traffic control team that monitors clicks and will immediately notify you of any suspicious clicks. Although we try to monitor our traffic as closely as possible, MyAdMarket is a growing exchange with nearly 200,000 publisher sites and thus detecting every single click-fraud continues to be an active challenge for us. It is for this reason we recommend you not to solely depend on our traffic control team, as you should periodically monitor your traffic as well.
